About Jessica Thies
— Meet the Designer
— Designer, Material Researcher, Sustainability Specialist
“I believe the future will be grown.”
My research is currently focused on reducing carbon emissions through seaweed-based materials and disseminating research through writing and art exhibitions.
I am a designer and material researcher who believes we can achieve circular systems through the use of new materials and redesigned production systems. I aim to transform the textile industry to increase transparency, incorporate regenerative closed-loop systems, and use innovative, natural and bio-based materials.
My design practice challenges the status quo of design and manufacturing today; a materials based approach which combines science research, trend forward textiles and living systems. I enjoy the collaborative process of working with various organisms such as algae, mycelium and bacteria and theorizing about their potential futures.
